Tinashe takes her dancing to the next level in the video for “Player,” the first single off her upcoming album Joyride. In the behind-the-scenes clip, shot at a penthouse studio overlooking downtown L.A., the singer battles several dancers, but faces her toughest challenge when she meets Chris Brown in the final performance.
“It takes place in a non-descriptive, futuristic type of location,” explained Tinashe. “I am battling different dancers in different genres of dance and kind of defeating them if you will.”
A shirtless Breezy shows off some moves of his own and gets “hot and steamy” while dancing with his sexy co-star. “She’s a talented young lady. I’ve grown quite fond of her,” he said of Tinashe, who returned the compliment.
“Chris Brown is an exceptionally talented entertainer, so I think it was somebody that I was definitely excited to collaborate with,” she said.
The full video debuts Monday. Go behind the scenes below.

The musician and former model talked to Maxim about her upcoming album.
Since her 2014 debut, Tinashe‘s life has been a whirlwind. She’s been non-stop touring (she just finished a leg with Katy Perry), recording, and doing photo shoots, video shoots and fashion campaigns. The 22-year-old’s debut album, Aquarius, garnered her comparisons to Aaliyah, Ashanti and Janet Jackson, but her upcoming release (Joyride, due January 2016) has more pop undertones—likely the result of working with famed Britney Spears producer Max Martin.
In the midst of her growing fame, Tinashe has remained balanced: she still lives at home with her parents in L.A. and, even though her schedule is crazy, tries to make time for all the same things she did before you were dancing to “2 On.”
We chatted with Tinashe about being compared to Aaliyah, her choice to work with a controversial artist like Chris Brown, and how she’s carving out her place in the music industry.
The duo teamed up with Snakehips for this feel-good, weekend-friendly anthem.
Even the most rabid party animals among us have those nights when we just want to ditch our sloppy friends and the craziness of the club and go chillllllllll.
And for those particular Friday nights, consider your personal soundtrack secured. R&B starletTinashe and Chi-town MC Chance the Rapper teamed up with London production duo Snakehipsfor “All My Friends” (no, it’s not an LCD Soundsystem cover), a feel-good, weekend-friendly anthem.
The Joyride singer kicks things off with an introspective verse about her love-hate relationship with getting lit, singing, “Sure, I get lonely / When I’m the only, only human in the heaving heat of the animals.” Chance chimes in with his signature snappy wordplay on a half-sung, half-rapped verse and then contributes backing vocals to what might be the catchiest effin’ chorus of the year.
This is the kind of joyful chorus that’ll have you singing along by the end of your first listen. But just in case, here are the lyrics for your memorizing pleasure: “All my friends are wasted/ And I hate this club, man I drink too much/ Another Friday night I wasted/ My eyes are black and red, I’m crawling back to you babe.”
IF YOU HAVE YET to cue up Tinashe on your “sexy time” playlist, get on it. The singer, who melds breathy R&B vocals with urban pop and indie beats, hit it big this summer with “2 On,” a Top 40 chart-topper off her debut album. Now Tinashe hopes to maintain her view from the top with the release of her sophomore album, Joyride, which ruminates on “the different relationships between human beings.” Says the 22-year-old, “Sexuality has always been part of who I am as an artist—emphasis on part. I’m an all-around entertainer, my own creative force, and I’m bringing something fresh to the table.”
