The musician and former model talked to Maxim about her upcoming album.

Since her 2014 debut, Tinashe‘s life has been a whirlwind. She’s been non-stop touring (she just finished a leg with Katy Perry), recording, and doing photo shoots, video shoots and fashion campaigns. The 22-year-old’s debut album, Aquarius, garnered her comparisons to Aaliyah, Ashanti and Janet Jackson, but her upcoming release (Joyride, due January 2016) has more pop undertones—likely the result of working with famed Britney Spears producer Max Martin.

In the midst of her growing fame, Tinashe has remained balanced: she still lives at home with her parents in L.A. and, even though her schedule is crazy, tries to make time for all the same things she did before you were dancing to “2 On.”

We chatted with Tinashe about being compared to Aaliyah, her choice to work with a controversial artist like Chris Brown, and how she’s carving out her place in the music industry.

The duo teamed up with Snakehips for this feel-good, weekend-friendly anthem.

Even the most rabid party animals among us have those nights when we just want to ditch our sloppy friends and the craziness of the club and go chillllllllll.

And for those particular Friday nights, consider your personal soundtrack secured. R&B starletTinashe and Chi-town MC Chance the Rapper teamed up with London production duo Snakehipsfor “All My Friends” (no, it’s not an LCD Soundsystem cover), a feel-good, weekend-friendly anthem.

The Joyride singer kicks things off with an introspective verse about her love-hate relationship with getting lit, singing, “Sure, I get lonely / When I’m the only, only human in the heaving heat of the animals.” Chance chimes in with his signature snappy wordplay on a half-sung, half-rapped verse and then contributes backing vocals to what might be the catchiest effin’ chorus of the year.

This is the kind of joyful chorus that’ll have you singing along by the end of your first listen. But just in case, here are the lyrics for your memorizing pleasure: “All my friends are wasted/ And I hate this club, man I drink too much/ Another Friday night I wasted/ My eyes are black and red, I’m crawling back to you babe.”

IF YOU HAVE YET to cue up Tinashe on your “sexy time” playlist, get on it. The singer, who melds breathy R&B vocals with urban pop and indie beats, hit it big this summer with “2 On,” a Top 40 chart-topper off her debut album. Now Tinashe hopes to maintain her view from the top with the release of her sophomore album, Joyride, which ruminates on “the different relationships between human beings.” Says the 22-year-old, “Sexuality has always been part of who I am as an artist—emphasis on part. I’m an all-around entertainer, my own creative force, and I’m bringing something fresh to the table.”

The not-yet-titled second studio album by American singer-songwriter Tinashe continues in development. The follow-up of her 2014’s debut “Aquarius” is scheduled to be released later this year or early 2016 via RCA Records.

Before the arrive of her mixtape “Amethyst, Tinashe was reported working with writers and producers from Prescription Songs, Dr. Luke’s publishing company, and Taylor Parks on this new studio album in late January 2015.

A full new demo track called “Sweet Satisfaction” surfaced online on 28 March 2015. During a recent interview with SPIN, Tinashe confirmed she has been working with Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Rock City and Cirkut on the upcoming music project. She said:

With this album, I have a very much clearer direction going into it of what I wanted as opposed to just shooting darts at the wall. One thing I was looking for from him was those big hooks, those super catchy, huge, smash hooks while still integrating that into what I do

Tinashe revealed via Snapchat that she has been working in the studio with Diplo working in this sophomore album on June 12th.

Tinashe‘s “All Hands on Deck” video proved she could demand the attention of a shipyard without much trouble — but what about the epicenter of New York City’s Times Square (Good Morning America)?

The singer and songwriter, who will tour with Nicki Minaj this summer, delivered a positively illuminating performance of her new single on Good Morning America earlier today, and if the sheen of her sharp tone or laser-cut choreography doesn’t offer enough shine in the clip above, that iridescent panel on the back of her jeans likely does the trick.

“Good morning, America!” the performer winks before she and two backup dancers dive straight into the performance’s first few dance steps. Two more join as the tune intensifies, and in the blink of an eye, the GMA stage is a no-holds-barred dance party.

Still, no two-step comes at the expense of Tinashe’s killer vocals, and when “All Hands on Deck” works its way to the bridge, the singer grounds her legs and lets her voice fly.

And you know that I tried / Really gave my all / Everything we built / Baby you let it fall” she cries.

Now, having found her voice, Tinashe told SPIN yesterday (June 2) she intends to continue using it.

“[With debut album Aquarius], I knew what I wanted to do, but everybody that I was working with really had no clue who I was or what I wanted to do,” she said. “What I’ve learned with this second album is to not waste time making records that aren’t going to end up on the project. Don’t waste time spending the first day getting to know the producer and just cutting whatever they want.”
